Bentley Ross, a somewhat unruly ten-year-old boy (an only child) from Ohio, begins a family vacation in Rockport, Massachusetts with a birthday, AND a life-changing experience he will never forget.

     It's not that Bentley was a horribly naughty child, just one who liked a "good time". The problem, of course, was that a "good time" to Bentley was usually a "bad time" for someone else.

     Thanks to the friendship of a mysterious dog he meets at the quarry in Rockport's "Dogtown" woods, Bentley discovers what is TRULY important.
